What is acromioplasty?
Acromioplasty, also known as shoulder decompression surgery, is a procedure doctors do to treat shoulder pain. It involves using a special type of tool to trim away the part of your shoulder blade that's pressing against a tendon and causing the pain.
Why is it performed?
The goal of this procedure is to relieve pressure on the tendon, so your shoulder can move better and your pain can be reduced. The procedure itself is relatively straightforward and takes just a few minutes. Afterward, your doctor may recommend physical therapy or other exercises to help your shoulder recover.
