Visit WebsitePrior to joining Lutheran Medical Group in September 2010, Tariq Akbar, MD, was a member of Indiana Medical Associates. He joined IMA in January 2001 after completing a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, earlier that year.
Dr. Akbar graduated from Adamjee Science College in Karachi, Pakistan in 1981, and he earned a bachelor's of medicine and surgery at Dow Medical College, also in Karachi, in 1989. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Civil Hospital in Karchi in 1990, and a residency in internal medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, in 1996.
Dr. Akbar, who is board certified in gastroenterology, is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
