Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the surgical process of altering the shape or look of the nose. Better known as a nose job, it enhances a patient's nose for a number of reasons including reconstruction after an accident, adjustments to improve the breathing capability of the patient, or to simply provide a better look. The process may involve using a plastic filler to change the shape of the nose. A person might also require rhinoplasty due to a genetic abnormality of the nose that leaves them looking malformed.

Rhinoplasty is not a single, solitary medical procedure. It describes all surgical procedures that involve the nose. Rhinoplasty can change the size or shape of the nose, narrow down the nostrils, define and lift the tip, or create other small, cosmetic changes or improvements to breathing function. When a physician recommends rhinoplasty, he or she will recommend specific alterations depending on the patient's individual needs and desires.

There are a number of reasons why someone might decide to have a rhinoplasty operation. For some people, it is about function, because they cannot breathe as effectively as they should. For others, it is all about cosmetic and visual changes because they are unhappy with their nose and want a change.
