Nutritional counseling can come in many forms depending on the needs of the patient. However, the bottom line is that this form of counseling exists to examine a patient's nutritional needs and to determine the best nutrition plan for them in order to meet health and wellness goals. Some conditions demand nutritional counseling in order to make sure that diet and exercise provide them with optimum health such as fibromyalgia, diabetes, obesity, asthma and cancer. Nearly any health condition can benefit from nutritional counseling; however, good nutrition contributes to a stronger immune system and better health. 

The nutritional counselor will customize their approach to the patient they are seeing. As an example, someone who has diabetes and undergoes nutritional counseling will want to focus on lower carbohydrate diets and moderate exercise. Because striking up a balance between diet and exercise is essential for people with diabetes, the nutritional counselor will want to help them find the right combination for optimum health.
