Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

When the mucous membranes in the sinuses swell, they can block the sinus passages and cause difficulty breathing, drainage, and even pain. Endoscopic sinus surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that opens the sinus passages by removing blockages like scar tissue, nasal polyps, or even irregularities in the sinus anatomy. Symptoms of sinusitis, septal deviations, turbinate hypertrophy, or nasal polyps can be alleviated by endoscopic sinus surgery. After surgery, the desired results are less frequent and severe sinus infections, improved airflow, and improved smell.

This procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia. Using an endoscope, a thin tube with a camera and a light at the end, your surgeon will be able to magnify and examine your sinuses. Blockages can be removed with thin, specialized instruments that allow the entire procedure to be performed inside the nostril, eliminating the need to cut through your skin. Many people are able to return home the same day as their endoscopic sinus surgery.
