ATHLETIC INJURIES
The most common athletic injuries are orthopedic injuries. Our goal at Southwestern Medical Center is to ensure proper and expedient healing to get you back in the game in no time. Some of the most frequent athletic injuries are ACL and meniscus tears as well as ankle, knee or foot bone injuries.
CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME
Carpal tunnel syndrome presents as numbness, tingling, pain or weakness in the wrist or hand. It is caused by pressure bearing down on the median nerve. The pressure is caused by inflammation, which can originate from repeated movements, disease or lifestyle changes (i.e. pregnancy).
JOINT REPLACEMENT
Arthroplasty, commonly referred to as joint replacement, is a surgical procedure that involves replacing a damaged or diseased joint with a completely functional artificial one. Patients undergoing joint replacement surgery should expect to be mobile within the same day of the procedure. Most patients are discharged within 1 to 2 days after surgery.
Patients should begin to enjoy significant pain reduction within 2 to 6 weeks of surgery. According to the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, artificial hip and knee joints will last most patients 15 to 20 years.
Any type of joint replacement should not be considered until medicinal, rehabilitation, and alternative therapy attempts have been unsuccessful.
