Matthew S. Butterfield, MD, is a sports medicine fellowship-trained and board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic and open reconstruction of the knee and shoulder, total joint replacement, and fracture care. His special interests of the shoulder include primary and revision rotator cuff repair, instability, and arthroplasty. His special interests of the knee include primary and revision ACL reconstruction, meniscus and cartilage preservation and repair, patellofemoral realignment, and arthroplasty.   Dr. Butterfield grew up in Ohio and is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. After orthopedic residency training in Florida, he relocated to Minnesota for sports medicine fellowship training. He and his wife live in the western suburbs of Minneapolis with their two young daughters. As a family, they stay active with children’s activities or sports and enjoy exploring Minnesota traditions and state parks. Dr. Butterfield has interests in international travel and cooking, cycling, and alpine skiing.
