Dr. Moriarity became interested in neurosurgery at an early age through exposure from family friends who were neurosurgeons. In his early education, Dr. Moriarity developed a growing interest in neuroanatomy and the function of the brain and spinal cord. His interest in neurosurgery fully blossomed during his time in medical school. In particular, he recalls his first case as a medical student—a temporal lobectomy. After seeing the human brain exposed in the operating room, Dr. Moriarity was certain that he needed to pursue a career in neurosurgery.
Dr. Moriarity’s practice currently focuses on surgical problems of the spine. Typical problems include cervical and lumbar stenosis due to herniated discs or degenerative changes. The majority of his lumbar spine procedures are done using minimally invasive techniques to help reduce pain after surgery and to speed recovery.
Dr. Moriarity grew up in Los Angeles, California, as the youngest of six children. He attended college and medical school at Stanford University in Northern California. Following medical school, he trained in Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins. He has lived and practiced in Jackson with his wife and three children since 2002.
