Endoscopy Services at North Alabama Medical Center primarily functions aEs an outpatient center, although inpatient services are provided on a 24/7 basis. Our team of Endoscopy trained RNs and techs work together to provide you with warmth, comfort, safety and support during your visit with us. We have easy access with outpatient parking at the back of the hospital, and our own family lobby with updates frequently to our Patient Tracking system. For our dedicated physicians that may refer you to our facility, we staff three Video Procedure rooms, along with 11 preparation/recovery bays in our brand new state of the art unit.

Dr. Gerard Haggstrom grew up in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended the University of Alabama where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1970. Dr. Haggstrom obtained his medical degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine in 1974. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Internal Medicine program. Dr. Haggstrom continued his training with a 3-year fellowship in the University of Alabama-Birmingham Gastroenterology Department. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1977 and Board Certified in Gastroenterology in 1979. has been serving the Florence area as a Gastroenterologist since 1979. His professional interests include: biliary endoscopy, management of advanced liver disease, and endoscopic intervention of the upper and lower digestive tract.
Dr. Jason Wilkes is a native of Florence. He graduated with honors from the University of Alabama in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine in 1998. Dr. Wilkes did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, AL. He then completed his 3-year fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of South Alabama in 2004. Dr. Wilkes was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 2001 and in Gastroenterology in 2004. He moved back home and joined Tennessee Valley Gastroenterology in 2004. His professional interests include: advanced colon polypectomy techniques, management of advanced liver disease and viral hepatitis, and endoscopic intervention of the upper and lower digestive tract including EGD, colonoscopy, and ERCP.
