Dr. Kitchens grew up in Tulsa and spent much of his time in athletics, running track and playing football for the Jenks Trojans. He walked on to the University of Oklahoma football team and played for four years under Head Coach Bob Stoops.
Following completion of his undergraduate studies at the University of Oklahoma in 2015, he completed a four-year medical degree at Barry University College of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, FL at the top of his class. After medical school, Dr. Kitchens completed an exhaustive three-year residency at a level 1 Trauma Center, The University of Louisville, in Kentucky. In addition, he completed a one-year fellowship in Reconstructive Foot/Ankle surgery and sports medicine in Cleveland, OH.
Throughout his training, he learned the skills required to take care of complex foot and ankle pathologies including, but not limited to, bunions and hammertoes, bunionettes, arthritis, ligament and tendon injuries, fractures, sports injuries, charcot neuroarthropathy, flat feet, and high arches utilizing techniques such as minimally invasive surgery, arthroscopy, ilizarov external fixation/deformity correction, total ankle arthroplasty, TenJet & Tenex, and revision surgery. He also had the opportunity to treat and care for high-performing athletes, some of who competed in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
Dr. Kitchens believes in delivering patient-focused care and formulating a specific treatment plan to give the best functional result and ultimately restore patients’ quality of life. Whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, Dr. Kitchens will construct a well-thought-out plan entailing both nonoperative and operative treatment options. Dr. Kitchens takes care to ensure all information is conveyed in a manner the patient understands to optimize recovery and achieve the best possible outcomes.
In his free time, Dr. Kitchens enjoys spending time with his wife, family, friends and labradoodles. He also enjoys golf and watching his OU Sooners take on their respective sport.
