Mike Mongo is an astronaut teacher and is always looking for the next out-of-this-world adventure. When his doctor recommended MDsave, Mike realized that this platform, where he could quickly purchase and save on the preventive care he needed, was the next step forward for the healthcare industry.
"My name is Mike Mongo and I'm an astronaut teacher. I'm the author of The Astronaut Instruction Manual, which is actually being turned into a television series right now. I am the director of The Humannaires Initiative, which reframes pandemic quarantine as space mission training. [The Humannaires Initiative is a partnership between Mike and the US launch services provider, United Launch Alliance.] I’m a YouTuber as well—I host Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Adventures—and, as of this summer, I will be the director of Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Camp at the Shetland Space Centre in Scotland in the United Kingdom."
"As a working aerospace professional I travel a lot, and I’m in great shape ordinarily. At 56, I got the opportunity to do a full, routine checkup and my doctor said, ‘Hey, you need to do these tests.’ And, you know, as we do as grown-ups, I had a grim response. I was like, ‘Ugh, money. Unexpected expenditures.’ And then my doctor said, ‘Well, I’m going to encourage you to use this platform called MDsave, and he handed me a brochure. So I went to the website [MDsave.com] and it was pretty simple. I found the facility I wanted to use in my area (Cape Canaveral), then purchased my procedures and set up my appointment. It was so simple, I actually thought, ‘Is it really this simple? It can’t be!’
When I went to the clinic to get my testing done, I was expecting some resistance or kickback or something to just not go right. There was none of that. It was fluid and comfortable and very professional. I had a terrific MDsave experience."
"I would love for more people to use [MDsave], because our health is so important and we often take it for granted, especially in the United States where it can be so challenging to secure affordable health services. If there’s a way, like MDsave, to improve that, to move it forward— especially for people in my age bracket—we’ve got to get behind it. Just because we’re in good health now doesn’t mean we shouldn’t pay attention and practice the ‘one ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure’ modality of thinking.
Healthcare is a competitive market. And when we're in competitive markets, if something like MDsave comes along and can help deliver people in need of medical services, who would say no to that?"
"My [health] insurance really doesn’t benefit me, to tell you the truth. No matter how much work I put into redirecting the policy, it just never works. There's always these high deductibles, which inevitably means that I wind up paying premium dollars because I haven't met my deductible. And I’m in relatively good health, so really it’s a stopgap for me. If I get into some sort of catastrophe, then I can rely on my insurance to help out, but it doesn’t help me on a day-to-day basis. It doesn’t help at all with regular, preventive health care, which is probably more important than emergency care, or at least as important. And that’s why MDsave worked so well for me. I can only imagine how much money I’ve saved by using MDsave; I know how much I paid before I found MDsave, and I see how much I end up paying through MDsave. I actually feel good about paying for care [on MDsave.com] because it’s so affordable and reasonable."
"There’s GoodRX, and this, in my view, is parallel, but with medical services. It’s astounding. There’s no need to sell me on something like this; it just works. It made me ask, ‘Why isn’t healthcare priced/structured like this ordinarily? This makes sense!’ So hats off to MDsave."
