What Your Mustache Says About You:
  1. You have a roguish sense of style.

  2. You’re ready for your close-up in any 70’s romance flick.

  3. You’re man enough to take care of your health.

The Meaning in the Mustache

Movember is a cause we can all get behind: stop men from dying too young, especially from preventable causes.

Guys, listen. There’s no shame or weakness in getting regular checkups and screenings. You wouldn’t let your car go without maintenance until it ran into the ground, right? So don’t do it to your body. Keep yourself a finely tuned engine so you’ll be around a long time for the people who depend on you.

Ladies, we all have fathers, brothers, or guy friends who need us to remind them to make their health a priority. Encourage them to keep on top of regular screenings. They say 80% of all healthcare decisions in the U.S. are made by women – so use those powers for good and help keep the men in your life going strong.

HOW TO MO

Step 1: Check Yourself Before You Wreck Your Health

Let’s be real for a minute. You know your body better than anyone, so you have to take charge of watching for signs of trouble.

One of the best ways to keep track of your health is to get a yearly checkup so you have a baseline to measure healthy versus unhealthy. Get a doctor on your team, somebody who you trust and who you’ll go back to regularly. A doctor who knows you well can recognize patterns or trends that another might miss.

Testicular cancer is most common in men ages 15-34, and about 8,720 new cases pop up each year. Do a self-exam regularly, and if something seems weird, talk to your doctor. If it turns out you need a biopsy, we can help with that, but start with your doctor. Most lumps and bumps turn out to be harmless. Make sure you know what’s going on with your boys – the ball’s in your court.

Prostate cancer is scary because it doesn’t always show symptoms. Age and family history can affect your risk, but talk to your doctor to find out when you should start getting screened and what type of test they recommend. Don’t blow off your prostate screenings: 1 in 7 men gets prostate cancer in their lifetime, and it kills an American every 19 minutes.

Mental health is something not a lot of people like to talk about, especially guys. But 1 in 4 Americans experiences a mental health issue every year, so you’re not alone if you’re facing a rough patch. No matter how bad things seem, there are always ways to cope and feel better. Talking to friends is a great start.

Step 2: Be a Mo Bro – Fight the Stigma

MYTH: Going to the doctor or getting help with health issues is a sign of weakness.

FACT: Taking care of your health is the manly thing to do.

The only way to combat the myth is to speak up! Men, grow your mo and when people ask about it, tell them it’s in support of men’s health. Ladies, slap on a mustache – it’s a guaranteed conversation starter and you can spread the good word about prevention. Of course, you don’t need a mustache to champion a world where fewer men die too young…just cheer on the men who are taking care of business, and encourage men who aren’t to make their health a priority.

Step 3: Living Healthier + Saving Money = Winning

Ready to get screened, but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to get the rest of you checked out? Compare local prices in our marketplace and lower those out of pocket costs.

Step 4Share Some Inspiration

Share the Message in the Mustache on your Twitter or Facebook page – maybe a mustachioed selfie will be the reminder some guys need to schedule that checkup!
