Growing up, I was always interested in health and wellness. In my country, the Philippines, some health concerns are based on superstitions and myths. Nursing gave me the knowledge and experience to address medical problems and help develop healthy, preventative habits.
Spend some time as a volunteer in a hospital to observe and get hands-on experience. Get advice from other nurses about their job and experience.
I’ve been in nursing for 39 years and have worked in all branches of clinical nursing: Intensive Care, Medical/Surgical, Rehabilitation Unit, Skilled Nursing Facility and Maternal Child Nursing. The most satisfying and rewarding in my experience is the care of mother and baby in the Family Birth Center.
Patience, flexibility, and compassion.
Take some time off to rest, relax, and recharge. Develop a hobby. Join a fitness club. Try a lean, clean and green diet. Whenever possible, walk daily and smell the roses.
